Iranians have held nationwide demonstrations following the Friday Prayers to condemn the Zionist regime of Israel’s deadly airstrikes on Gaza Strip.

People took to the streets in more than 700 cities across Iran to show their solidarity with Gazans and their outrage over the massacre of Palestinians, condemning the treacherous silence of Arab countries.

Iranians also condemned the ineffective UN Security Council emergency meeting held following the fresh round of Israeli airstrikes on the besieged Gaza Strip.

Israeli airstrikes, shelling, and artillery fire have left over 24 people dead and more than 160 others injured in the new wave of attacks on Gaza since November 14.

Following Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s announcement that the military was preparing for a “significant widening” of its attacks against the blockaded Palestinian territory, the Tel Aviv regime has called up 30,000 army reservists, preparing 16,000 for a possible ground invasion of Gaza.

In retaliation for the airstrikes, Palestinian resistance fighters fired over a dozen rockets from Gaza into the Israeli cities of Ofakim, Ashdod, and the areas of Eshkol, Bnei Shimon, Sha’ar Hanegev and Hof Ashkelon.

The Israeli military frequently carries out airstrikes and other attacks on the Gaza Strip, claiming the attacks are for defensive purposes. However, disproportionate force is always used in violation of international law and civilians are often killed or injured.

Gaza has been blockaded since June 2007, a situation that has caused a decline in the standard of living, unprecedented levels of unemployment, and unrelenting poverty.

The apartheid regime of Israel denies about 1.7 million people in Gaza their basic rights, such as freedom of movement, jobs that pay proper wages, and adequate healthcare and education.
